Toys that help children feel good about themselves!
Crawdaddy's Toys was opened in September of 2003, the result of a desire to achieve financial independence. We opened our toy store (and subsequent website) because we wanted a business that not only offered a positive impact on children, but allowed us to take our kids to school in the morning and eat dinner as a family at night. Additionally, we were attracted by an industry of strong-willed, independent-minded entrepreneurs and inventors; we felt right at home! Early on we decided there were toys we were not willing to sell, so Janet came up with our statement of purpose to help guide our buying: "Toys that help children feel good about themselves."
This means we primarily offer:
~ Toys that are more imagination-powered than battery-powered
~ Toys that are well constructed AND reasonably priced
~ Wooden toys for their esthetics, that enhance fine motor skills and problem-solving
~ Toys manufactured by small, independent companies (like our own)
~ Toys from wholesalers commited to fair wages, reasonable work conditions, and non-toxic toys.
It also means we won't sell:
~ Dolls that project unrealistic body image to girls
~ Bottles or pacifiers, because we believe children should be taught to feed their babies breast milk
~ 20th century war toys, because we're committed to promoting chivalry rather than war
Our selective approach to purchasing is born of our love of child rearing and a desire to offer an alternative to the cheap, disposable junk available in the mass market.
